Go to the emulator

The Polestar 2 Emulator for Android Studio lets developers test and evaluate app projects for the in-car Android Automotive OS. It features a full implementation of Google apps and services, including Google Assistant, Google Maps, and Google Play. These features, along with the Polestar-specific system image, show how your apps will appear and behave inside Polestar 2.

Use Android Studio 4.2 or newer. Currently available at Android Studio.

  • Download and install

    1. In Android Studio, select Tools then SDK Manager.
    2. Click the SDK Update Sites tab.
    3. Click Add and enter the following Name and URL, then click OK:
    a. Name: Polestar Emulator
    b. URL: https://developer.polestar.com/sdk/polestar_emulator.xml
    4. Switch to the SDK Platforms tab and enable the Show Package Details checkbox.
    5. Enable a Polestar 2 emulator and click OK.

  • Create an AVD

    1. In Android Studio, select Tools then AVD Manager.
    2. Click Create Virtual Device and select Automotive from the menu on the left.
    3. Choose Polestar 2 with the Play Store icon and click Next (if you do not see the Play Store icon, restart Android Studio. It will appear when you open AVD manager again).
    4. Click the x86 Images tab and download the Polestar emulator.
    5. Select it in the list, click Next, then Finish.
