‘The speeds he was going were crazy’: Behind the scenes at a Polestar owner's event

What happens when you let loose 100 die-hard Polestar customers on a Swedish race track in a souped-up Polestar 2? (Oh, and why not throw in a day spent with a legendary racing driver for good measure.) Welcome to a Polestar owner's day, an exclusive event featuring behind-the-scenes access to the Polestar Universe.

Some moments are better shared together. Professional driving days are one of them. The thrill of pushing a car to its limits, feeling it stick to corners so tight the physics don't seem possible. For most normal people, this is a hair-raising experience. But for car people, real car people, these moments are special. There are stories to swap. Notes to take. Sweaty palms to shake. And adrenaline-fuelled smiles to share with your compadres. "It was real fun. The speeds at which he was going were crazy. He was breaking pretty late and very hard compared to regular driving," explained Danny Christensen after his hot lap with Polestar Ambassador and 2017 World Touring Car Champion Thed Björk.

Track Day

On a wet and windy day on Sweden's west coast, under the watchful eye of Thed, we treated our customers to the true capabilities of Polestar's performance-driven, scream-inducing vehicles. Stora Holm, a race track just outside Gothenburg, has a storied history in Scandinavian automotive circles. It was here, some sixty years ago, that the seatbelt and airbag were first tested. Today, however, was something altogether different.

After a quick, no-frills introduction on how best to navigate both car and track, visitors from 13 countries pushed a Polestar 2 BST to its limits. "I am always impressed by professional drivers knowing how to utilise the technical features. I have the same car but I would never get close to it," Leif Johanson told us trackside.

But this trip wasn't all apexes and burning rubber.

We are lucky to have so many passionate customers around the world and I think it's important to recognise that loyalty goes both ways

Nestled atop the craggy landscape of Sweden's western coast, you'll find an uber-secret 1960s brutalist structure. Inside, and hidden from the industrial hustle and bustle of the city's manufactring centre down below, a group of designers and engineers are plotting the next set of luxury EVs. On most days, this building is almost impossible to get into (trust us, we've tried). But this week, its doors were thrown open for special presentations and insights into our Design and Customer Experience philosophies.

"We are lucky to have so many passionate customers around the world and I think it's important to recognise that loyalty goes both ways. If we want to retain these customers long-term and build relationships that go beyond the transactional, we must show our loyalty and appreciation. Events like the one we hosted yesterday help Polestar drivers connect with both each other and with us, giving us invaluable insights into their opinions and preferences," says event organiser Lise Hentschel.

If you want to get behind the wheel of a Polestar, look out for special upcoming events. Or, better still, you could buy one here and experience it for yourself every day.
