LCA report: Polestar 2 versions
Everything we produce today has an environmental footprint. EVs are no exception. But that doesn't have to be the case. Over time we can change how cars are made. And you can influence that progress. Because what you choose to buy is what the industry becomes. To enable us all to choose the greenest path, we all need to understand the scope of that footprint.
When you're buying a car, that car (just like any other product) has an impact on the planet. To determine that impact, a study known as an LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) must be completed. Apart from determining a framework to measure the environmental impact, the study can also provides steps towards a stated goal, such as how to make that product more sustainable
As a customer, an LCA should give you transparent and practical information about the impact of a product.
In the case of an EV, information about emissions from materials production, manufacturing, how the type of electricity used when charging affects use phase emissions, and so on.
But it's also a tool that allows you to compare models and make informed decisions when purchasing a car.
As a car brand, an LCA is a tool that sets us on a path.
A path towards a climate-neutral future. A path towards a more transparent car industry. By publishing the lifetime carbon footprint of all our models (as we did with the launch edition of Polestar 2), along with the entire methodology we used, we encourage others to do the same. Opening a conversation around transparency. Creating a standardised way of calculating and presenting our progress towards our shared sustainability goals.
That's why we're releasing the LCA reports for our new Polestar 2 versions (Long range Single motor and Standard range Single motor), including all emissions from cradle to grave.
Manufacturers aren't the only drivers of change. If consumers are made aware of the true environmental impact of electric vehicles, they can make more informed choices. And in doing so, help us to achieve our mission of converting as many people to sustainable electric mobility as possible.
