Polestar at the Met Gala

Few things occupy the space where design, art, and innovation meet as naturally as fashion. The runway is a known environment for true experimentation, showcasing new techniques, materials, and design philosophies to audiences eager to see what’s next and what’s still in the realm of fantasy. The Met Gala, colloquially known as “fashion’s big night out”, is where the who’s who of this world congregate. And to meet up at this meeting of minds, participants took another thing that’s perfectly at home in the middle of the Venn diagram of design, art, and innovation: Polestar 2.

The official EV sponsor for the Met Gala, Polestar provided the transportation that attendees needed to get to New York City’s Metropolitan Museum of Art. The gala, known variously as the Costume Institute Ball or Costume Institute Benefit, was founded in 1948 by fashion publicist and New York Fashion Week founder Eleanor Lambert as a fundraiser for the Met’s Costume Institute, as well as an official opening of the year’s annual collection.

Each collection is curated around a theme. The gala’s dress code echoes that theme, with attendees expected to array themselves accordingly. The 2022 collection’s theme is a fashion retrospective entitled “In America: An Anthology of Fashion”. The dress code for the gala? “Gilded Glamour”.

A platform for both personal expression and design as art, the gala draws an enormous viewership, with some describing it as “the Super Bowl of celebrity red carpets”. Organised by haute couture publication Vogue, the guest list features some of the biggest names in fashion (of course), entertainment, politics, sports, and business.

Given how much we enjoyed attending the big game, and the opportunity it afforded for us to spread our sustainable electric performance message, we couldn’t pass up the chance to do the same again. Especially at an event which celebrates the merging of those very things that Polestar embodies: design, art, and innovation.
