Hybrid batteries

To run the car on the electric motors, it is fitted with two hybrid batteries – one beneath the tunnel console and one behind the rear seat in the cargo area. These are maintenance-free, rechargeable batteries of lithium-ion type.

The hybrid batteries at the back have a number of visible parts that can be seen through a window from the cargo area. Only authorised workshop personnel are allowed to handle hybrid battery parts.

 Note

The car cannot be started if the hybrid battery is discharged.

If both the starter battery and the hybrid battery are discharged, both batteries have to be charged. It is not possible to charge just the hybrid battery first in this case. The starter battery needs a certain charge level so that the hybrid battery can charge.

 Warning

The hybrid battery must only be replaced by a workshop – contact Polestar Customer Support.

Hybrid battery service life and capacity

The capacity of the hybrid battery diminishes with age and use, which may result in increased use of the internal combustion engine and, as a consequence, reduced fuel economy and reduced range during electric operation.

Coolant

The hybrid battery's cooling system has a separate expansion tank.
