Warning and indicator symbols
The driver display symbols tell you the status of different systems in your car. Some indicate whether a system is active and operating as it should, and others alert you to important information or detected faults.
Symbol types and colours
Some symbols are warnings that require immediate action, while others indicate the current status of specific functions. The symbol colour roughly signifies the level of importance. Red symbols are the most critical while amber symbols represent less urgent warnings and alerts. Symbols of other colours typically convey status information about the car's functions.
Tip
Be sure to look up the meaning of symbols you are unfamiliar with. Many symbols will appear with a notification providing more information.
 | Brake system warning | A fault is detected in the brake system. Take immediate action and contact Polestar Customer Support. |
 | Parking brake warning | Continuous illumination indicates that the parking brake is engaged. Flashing indicates a parking brake fault. |
 | Car status warning | There is at least one critical level issue with the car. Open the car status app and go to the service tab to see what the issue is and resolve it as soon as possible. |
 | Low battery voltage warning | The car's battery has a low voltage. Charge it as soon as possible. |
 | Power system failure warning | A fault is detected in the car's power system. Take immediate action and contact Polestar Customer Support. |
 | Seatbelt reminder | Someone in the car isn't wearing their seatbelt. |
 | Airbag fault warning | A fault is detected with the airbags. |
 | Charging cable connected | The charging cable is still connected to the car. |
 | Rear collision warning | The car has identified a high risk of a rear collision. |
 | Power steering failure | The power steering system no longer works due to a fault. Stop driving as soon as it is safe to do so. |
 | Artificial external sound error | There is an issue with the car's artificial external sound. |
 | Left lane departure warning | You are too close to the lane markings on the left-hand side of the car. |
 | Right lane departure warning | You are too close to the lane markings on the right-hand side of the car. |
 | Rear detection system failure | There is a fault with the rear detection system. If the symbol flashes, it means that there is a calibration failure. |
 | Brake system warning | A fault is detected in the brake system. |
 | Anti-lock braking system warning | The anti-lock braking system is disengaged. The friction brakes still function but without anti-lock braking. |
 | Car status warning | There is an important car status notification. Open the car status app and go to the service tab to see what the issue is and resolve it as soon as possible. |
 | Power steering fault | There is a fault with the power steering. The power steering system is working with reduced effect. |
 | Forward collision warning and safety intervention fault | A fault is detected in the forward collision warning and safety intervention systems.1 |
 | Lane keeping aid fault | There is a fault with the lane keeping aid system.1 |
 | Tyre pressure warning | Constant illumination indicates low tyre pressure. Flashing indicates a system fault or inability to measure the tyre pressure. |
 | Stability system alert | A flashing symbol indicates that the stability system is intervening. A fault in the system is indicated by a constant glow. |
 | Stability system off | The stability system is turned off. |
 | Hill descent control warning | There is an issue with the hill descent control function and it is currently unavailable. |
 | Rain sensor fault | A fault is detected with the rain sensor. |
 | Reduced performance alert | The car's performance is reduced. |
 | Evasive manoeuvre warning | Steering is temporarily enhanced during an evasive manoeuvre. |
 | Rear collision warning | The car has identified a risk of a rear collision. |
 | Driver alert system fault | A fault is detected with the Driver alert system. |
 | Rear fog light on | The rear fog light is on. |
 | Position lights failure | There is an issue with the position lights. |
 | Low beam failure | There is an issue with the low beam. |
 | Automatic high beam failure | There is an issue with the automatic high beam. |
 | High beam failure | There is an issue with the high beam. |
 | Automatic high beam on | The high beam is on and automatically controlled. |
 | High beam on | The high beam is on and manually controlled. |
 | Left-hand direction indicator | The left direction indicator is active and indicating a left turn. |
 | Right-hand direction indicator | The right direction indicator is active and indicating a right turn. |
 | Position lights on | The position lights are on. |
 | Low beam on | The low beam is on. |
 | Ready to drive | The ready symbol appears when you put the car in a driving gear. It disappears when the car's speed exceeds walking pace. It reappears whenever the car slows down below the same threshold. |
 | Automatic hold is active | The automatic hold braking function is active. The car automatically brakes while stationary. |
 | Child lock | The child lock is active on both sides of the car. Passengers in the rear seats can't open the rear doors or operate the rear windows. |
 | Left child lock | The child lock is active on the left-hand side of the car. Passengers in the rear seats can't open the rear doors or operate the rear windows on the left side of the car. |
 | Right child lock | The child lock is active on the right-hand side of the car. Passengers in the rear seats can't open the rear doors or operate the rear windows on the right side of the car. |
 | Hill descent control enabled | The hill descent control function is enabled but not currently active. |
 | Driver alert | The Driver alert function senses you are tired and should take a break as soon as possible. |
 | Automatic high beam is enabled | The automatic high beam is enabled and available to use. |
 | Rain sensor active | The rain sensor is active and the wipers are in auto mode. |
 | Trailer lights check | The car is performing a trailer lights check. |
 | Trailer fault | There is a fault with the trailer. |
 | Towbar unlocked | The towbar is unlocked. |
 | Lane keeping aid off | Lane keeping aid is turned off. |
