Show. Don’t tell.

The future is electric. This we’ve known for a while. What we didn’t know was how much fun we were going to have creating it. And how exciting that electric future will be. The combination of electric performance, responsive dynamics, and top-down driving with a total absence of engine noise is a thrilling one. One too exciting for mere words (yes, we realise the irony). One that we need to display, rather than just talk about.

Which brings us to Polestar O2.

An electric roadster concept, it takes the defining characteristics of Polestar and combines them in one package. The thrill of electric performance. The cutting-edge design that marks it out as something wholly unique and unmistakably a member of the family. And the material, technology, and production innovations that make it the true redefinition of a sports car.

Of course, it’s possible to get specific.

Polestar O₂: the electric roadster concept. Complete with drone.

It features the same contextualised, intuitive Android Automotive operating system with Google built in. Sustainable, performance-enhancing materials play a larger role than ever, with both the flax-fibre composites of Bcomp and labelled aluminium (for easier recycling) being used in the bonded-chassis car. A mono-material consisting of a highly recyclable thermoplastic makes up all of the soft components of the interior.

It also has a drone.

Deployable while in motion, the drone films the driver, allowing them to star in their own films about what it’s like to be behind the wheel of Polestar O2. And these movies don’t have to be action either (though one of them is). Set to one of the other of three flight film modes, the drone flies in swooping arcs as opposed to sharp dives, creating a smoother, more atmospheric feel. The third mode films the occupants close-up during roof-down driving. 

Polestar O2 is proof. It exists to demonstrate what’s possible when material, technological, and design innovations inhabit the same space. That it’s not enough to merely talk about what’s possible, that results need to be displayed. The future is electric, sure. But it’s also going to be very exciting. And that news we didn’t just want to tell.
