Alloy wheels
Every part of the Polestar 1 is designed to optimise performance. The 21" alloy wheels with wide 30-profile tyres contribute to the car’s great handling and roadholding characteristics, as well as its high-performance look. The front rims are 9 inches wide, the rear rims are 10 inches wide.
LED Highlights
The Polestar 1 is fitted with full-LED headlights that provide enhanced visibility in the dark thanks to greater range and more light on the road. The lights come with an ‘Active High Beam’ function that prevents dazzling drivers of oncoming cars, and ‘Active bending lights’ that turn with the steering to provide a better view through corners when it’s dark.
Active rear spoiler
For greater stability at higher speeds, an active rear spoiler raises automatically from its integrated flush position when the car’s speed exceeds 65 mph. The spoiler retracts again when the speed falls below 45 mph. The spoiler can also be raised manually by pressing a button on the front of the driver’s door armrest.
Premium sound, Bowers & Wilkins
We developed the Polestar 1’s premium sound system in collaboration with renowned audio manufacturer Bowers & Wilkins. The system delivers 1,400 watts to 16 speakers and an innovative ‘open air’ subwoofer. Unique 'Room Transformation' technology developed with Swedish audio software specialists Dirac Research lets you choose three different 'Room Modes' to recreate the acoustics of a 'Studio', 'Individual Stage' and 'Gothenburg Concert Hall' inside the car.

The Polestar 1 comes equipped with Pirelli P Zero tyres, developed specifically for the electric performance hybrid, and marked with a POL for aftermarket identification.
The tyre pressure monitoring system lessens the risk for accidents caused by low tyre pressure or a puncture. TPMS uses the car’s anti-lock brake system sensors to calculate tyre pressure. If pressure in any of the tyres is too low, the driver display shows which tyre is affected.
The exclusive gearshift for the 8-speed Geartronic™ automatic gearbox is handcrafted out of genuine, solid crystal by the Swedish glass artisans at Orrefors®. A beautiful blend of craftsmanship and technology, this unique piece of jewellery exemplifies the essence of contemporary Scandinavian design.
Paddle shifters are fitted as standard, delivering a more customisable driver experience. They give the Polestar 1 a sporty feel, as well as quick and safe manual control of the automatic gearbox, without having to let go of the steering wheel.
The Polestar 1 has decor panels in carbon fibre on the dashboard, tunnel console and doors. The panels on the dashboard and doors are very wide, giving the interior a really sporty look that harmonizes with the exterior design.
The Polestar 1 has a black, sport steering wheel, designed for the best possible ergonomic experience. Its leather-clad rim is perforated on the grip areas, delivering a positive grip that’s particularly useful during dynamic driving. The button areas are glossy black with surrounding Silk Metal trim. In the centre is a Polestar emblem.
The Polestar 1 interior upholstery is made entirely in Nappa leather, giving it an exclusive look, feel and smell. Look for the special ‘Brogue’ perforated strips that form the border of the seats and headrests, and distinctive Feather Deco stitching that adds a unique pattern on the front seats.
The interior of the Polestar 1 is expressly designed to put the driver at the centre of the driving performance universe. Sport pedals in brushed aluminium with rubber inserts come as standard, enhancing the exclusive, sporty look and feel of the interior.
This stylish, elastic net pocket provides convenient storage of maps, tickets, books and other small items. It’s easily accessible for the front seat passenger and also for the driver.
Specially designed textile mats are fitted in the front of the Polestar 1, contributing to a welcoming and luxurious feeling. Look closely and you’ll see the same perforated leather binding detail as we use on the seats and headrest.
Our designers came up with a very special idea to make use of the gap between the overhead console and the glass roof. People outside the car can see an illuminated Polestar symbol, while inside the car the driver and passengers can see the symbol reflected in the glass roof, like a star in the sky.
For a nice welcoming feel inside the car, the Polestar 1 has an ‘Ambience’ light guide that runs around the doors and rear seat area. It stays lit all the time, from the moment a door is opened until the trip is finished and the car is locked.
The Polestar 1’s sport seats are upholstered in hand-stitched Nappa leather for an exclusive look and feel. Side bolsters in both the seat cushions and backrests provide excellent support during dynamic driving, while the multi-directional lumbar support and seat cushion extension are power-operated for your convenience.
Even tall people can sit comfortably in the front passenger seat. Intuitively positioned and shaped controls allow six-way electric adjustment of the seat cushion, backrest, lumbar support, and more. You can save and restore your favourite settings using the memory buttons on the front door upper panel.
Use your personal remote control to open the car, and the memory function perfectly adjusts the seat and door mirrors to your preferred settings. The seat cushion, backrest, lumbar support, and more are easy to adjust using the intuitively positioned and shaped controls, so you can find your ideal position quickly and conveniently.
Both front seats have power-operated lumbar support that can be adjusted horizontally as well as vertically. This makes them easy to adjust to suit a very wide range of driver and passenger heights and personal preferences, so everyone can enjoy an extremely comfortable ride.
Just like the front seats, the rear seat cushions and backrests are shaped to offer great side support, even during dynamic driving. To make it easy to get into and out of the rear seats, the doors open extra wide, and the front seats move forwards at the touch of a button on top of their backrest.
The two rear head-restraints are integrated into the backrests and parcel shelf, contributing to the dynamic coupé look of the interior.
The Polestar 1 is a `2+2` coupé model, which means that space for the driver and front seat passenger is prioritized and that the rear seat is suitable for two children, youngsters or short adults, with a maximum comfortable height of 145 cm.
The interior climate makes a big difference to everyone’s comfort. Intuitive touch screen controls help you set independent temperatures for the driver and front passenger side, while floor air outlets and separate adjustable air vents in the roof pillars ensure a comfortable climate in the rear seat, whatever the weather.
Enjoy clean, healthy cabin air that’s free from dust, pollen and other particles. The efficient CleanZone active charcoal multifilter monitors incoming air and shuts the cabin's air intakes if harmful substances are detected. On warm days, it can even automatically ventilate the cabin when you unlock the car via remote control.
Parking climate helps to improve the cabin climate when the car is parked. Features like pre-conditioning mean that you can step into a nice cool cabin when the weather’s hot. You can start it remotely via the Polestar 1 Connect app, or from inside the car via the centre touch screen.
The electric 5 kW heater is powered by the hybrid battery of the Polestar 1.
Heated front seat cushions, backrests and cushion extensions provide instant comfort on cold mornings. You can choose between three heating levels on the centre touch screen display. It’s particularly useful with the leather upholstery, which tends to be very cold on contact in freezing weather.
The steering wheel rim has electric heating as standard, so you can drive comfortably and safely without wearing gloves when the weather’s cold.
Advanced, heated wiper blades with integrated washer nozzles ensure efficient, uniform washing at all speeds and under all circumstances. The upper sides of the blades are equipped with multiple holes which emit washer fluid just before the wiper arm starts to move forward. The heater function prevents the fluid from freezing in the nozzles.
Help is always available with Polestar Connect. Assistance is available 24 hours a day via the app or the ON CALL button in the Polestar 1. You can ask for advice, or in an emergency situation press an SOS button for help. The car automatically makes an emergency call after an accident or if it’s being stolen, and you can even use the Polestar 1 Connect app to help track a stolen car.
Enjoy clear 3D maps and guidance on the large centre display, with additional guidance on the driver display and optionally also in the head-up display. The navigation system is easy to operate using the touch-screen, or voice control, and lifetime free map upgrades mean that the on-board maps will always be up to date. You can even send destinations from your smartphone to your car using the Polestar 1 Connect app.
The high-resolution digital driver display comes to life when the ignition is switched on, giving a clear view to both driver and passenger. The driver can choose between two display modes, as well as different looks and colour schemes. Light sensors measure the surrounding light and automatically adapt the display’s brightness to it’s always comfortable and restful for the eyes.
The head-up display puts navigation directions, speed limits and more right in front of your eyes. The information seems to hover about two metres in front of the car, using semi-transparent text and graphics that don’t block your vision. The brightness is automatically adapted to the surrounding light. The driver can adjust the brightness and image position, as well as make personal settings. The image position is included in the memory function for the power-operated seat.
Listen to music, make phone calls, get directions, and send/receive messages, while staying focused on your driving. Android Auto makes it possible to access an Android smartphone (5.0 Lollipop or higher) via the car’s central touch screen and voice commands using Google speech technology. You can connect your phone to the car via a charging cable and USB port situated in the storage compartment under the front centre armrest.

Tune into your favourite radio stations in high quality digital audio with DAB+ (Digital Audio Broadcasting).
A smart way to lower the risk of accidents and fines. Road Sign Information displays information from road signs in the lower part of the speedometer or in the head-up display. Using a camera or information from the Sensus navigation system, it alerts you to speed limits, 'no overtaking', 'no entry' and other road signs, and can alert you if you exceed the speed limit, or drive the wrong way on a one-way street.
The USB-A port is located in the storage compartment under the front centre armrest. A convenient place to store and charge your phone while you drive.
Efficient high-pressure jets keep the headlights clean, improving visibility in the dark and in bad weather conditions. The nozzles are hidden under body-coloured covers on the bumper. Headlight cleaning is automatically activated together with the windscreen/windshield cleaning.
Both the interior rear-view mirror and the exterior side mirrors of the Polestar 1 have automatic dimming to lower the risk of dazzling by headlights of cars coming up from behind.
The door mirrors on the Polestar 1 have a minimalistic frameless design that strips away unnecessary material. The mirror extends all the way to the edges of the mirror housing, maximising the field of view and improving the aerodynamics of the Polestar 1. The mirrors are electrically adjustable, heated (activated together with the heated rear window) and folding (either activated by the driver or automatically when the car is locked), to minimise the risk of damage from passing vehicles.
There is a large, wide exhaust tail pipe on either side of the lower rear end. Their shape and size make a powerful impression, which is tempered by the understated black chrome finish.
The key remote controls central locking, operates the doors, boot lid and glove compartment locks. A flashing LED on the dashboard indicates that the car is locked. A metal keyblade is hidden inside the remote, in case a flat battery renders the remote inoperable.
You can lock and unlock the car without inserting a key or pressing a remote control button. With the remote control or a smartphone with the Polestar 1 Connect app in your pocket, the car unlocks as soon as you place your hand on a door handle. To lock it again, press the locking button on one of the door handles or boot lid. Wave your foot under the left side of the rear bumper to open the boot without using your hands.
The factory-fitted alarm is connected to the doors, bonnet and boot lid. It is automatically turned on when the car is locked, and turned off when it is unlocked. When the alarm is activated, the alarm’s horn sounds, the hazard lights are activated (in intervals of five minutes) and the interior lighting is turned on.
There’s plenty of space inside the roomy glove compartment. The lid has a handle on the left hand side for easy driver access, and can be locked.
Activated via the central touch screen, this feature locks the boot lid, and makes it impossible to unlock with the key remote. The function also locks the folding mechanism for both parts of the rear seat. The glove box can be locked with a mechanical key. Handy for preventing access to the boot and glove compartment when you leave the car with a valet service.
For maximum security you can lock and unlock the car using the buttons on the inside of the front doors. A flashing LED close to the button indicates the status. When the car is locked from the inside, the alarm is not turned on.
The safety belt is the most important safety feature inside a car. To remind all occupants to use their safety belt, the Polestar 1 has audible and visible safety belt reminders for both the front and rear seats. The driver is informed if anybody releases their safety belt during the trip.
The unique SIPS™ side impact protection system helps protect you and your passengers in the event of a side-collision. The car’s steel framework and the front seat frames help to displace the impact of a side-collision away from the occupants to other parts of the car body, and help prevent intrusion into the cabin. Side airbags are integrated into the outer sides of the front seat backrests and are triggered by sensors in case of a side-collision.
Together with the safety belts, the frontal airbags help protect your head, face and chest in a frontal collision. They’re intelligent too: to optimise protection, the airbags adapt the level of inflation to the force of the impact. If the impact is low enough that the airbags aren’t needed, the system deploys the safety belt pre-tensioners instead. The passenger airbag can easily be disconnected using a cut-off switch, making it possible to mount a child seat in the front passenger seat.
WHIPS™ is a Volvo safety innovation that helps reduce the risk of whiplash injury if your car is hit from behind. In the event of an impact, the entire front backrest and head restraint moves with the occupant to support the neck, preventing the head from moving backwards quickly.
Further helping to protect the driver's lower legs in the event of a frontal collision, a knee airbag is installed above the pedals. The knee airbag is deployed together with the other airbags and supplements the safety belt, the safety belt pre-tensioner, the brake pedal release and the integrated knee protection under the dashboard to help optimise protection.
Inflatable curtains are airbags integrated into the longitudinal part of the roof above the doors. They inflate from top down, helping protect your head and neck in a side collision or roll-over. The Inflatable Curtain also helps protect in some frontal collisions and stays inflated for several seconds to provide prolonged protection in the event of secondary impacts.
Automatic steering assistance system helps you avoid collisions with oncoming vehicles. If you drift across the lane markings in the way of an oncoming vehicle, your car steers back. Please note: The driver is always responsible for how the car is controlled, this is only a supportive function.
If a vehicle is approaching from behind and the system calculates that there is a risk of a collision, it flashes all indicators at a higher rate than the regular hazard warning light rate, to try to catch the attention of the driver of the approaching vehicle. If the system calculates that a vehicle is about to hit it from behind, the system tensions the safety belts just before the collision. If the car is at a standstill, the system also activates full auto-braking.
You can open the boot lid with the touch of a button (on the remote control, on the dashboard, or via Polestar Connect), or with the hands-free opening function. Press down lightly on the lid with your hand to close it again.
In the event of a puncture, you can seal the tyre temporarily with the emergency repair kit. It includes an electric air compressor and sealing fluid, conveniently stored in the left side boot panel. The compressor can also be used to check and adjust the tyre pressure.
Add versatility to your Polestar and connect extra electrical equipment, such as a cooler box, with the 12V power outlet in the luggage compartment.
Take the stress out of hill starts. Hill Start Assist keeps the brakes applied for a short period after the brake pedal has been released and until the accelerator is depressed when starting uphill or downhill.
Blind spots just became slightly less blind. The Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) of the Polestar 1 uses the radar units in each corner of the rear bumper to detect incoming vehicles, up to 6.5 m rearward from the external mirrors and one lane in either direction. A light on the edge of the external mirror, usually lit, will flash if there's a vehicle in the blind spot. The system also detects rapidly approaching vehicles, warning the driver via the flashing mirror lights if they attempt to change lanes. This system is always active at speeds greater than 7.5 mph, unless manually deactivated via the menu in the centre display.
Minimize the risk of collision when reversing out of parking spaces, or anywhere else with restricted vision to the rear left and right sides. The radar units inside each corner of the rear bumper detect approaching vehicles from up to 30 m away. The system warns the driver with an audible warning from the left or right rear loudspeaker and a graphic warning on the Centre display. If the driver should continue reversing in spite of the warnings and a collision is imminent, the car automatically brakes.
Lane Keeping Aid adds convenience to motorway driving. If you get too close or unintentionally cross a lane marking, it will gently steer your car back into your lane or alert you with vibrations in the steering wheel. Constantly monitoring your position on the road, Lane Keeping Aid provides smooth support at speeds between 40 mph and 120 mph. The system will not intervene when you intentionally cross a lane marking and use the indicator.
Adaptive Cruise Control is a co-pilot you can turn on and off, automatically keeping a set distance between the Polestar 1 and a vehicle in front. There are five different distances to choose from, and the Polestar 1 will stop if the car in front of it stops, following it if it pulls away in under three seconds.
Our 360° camera shows you a high-resolution bird's-eye view of the area surrounding your Polestar 1. A great help when reversing or manoeuvring in confined areas with impaired visibility. The system uses four cameras: one in each door mirror, one at the front and one at the rear. To see the view from just one camera, simply touch the relevant image on the centre display. The rear camera can also be switched to a zoomed-in view close to the car, particularly convenient when hitching a trailer.
Front and rear park assist helps you when reversing into tight spaces with restricted vision. As the car gets closer to an obstacle, you're alerted by a warning sound from the rear loudspeakers and a graphical view in the centre display. The frequency of the warning sound increases the closer you get to the obstacle.
Pilot Assist not only helps the Polestar 1 maintain a safe distance from vehicles in front, it also makes minute steering adjustments to stay centred in the lane, regardless of other traffic. This is achieved with input from the camera and radar, which monitor the car’s position in relation to visible lane markings and a vehicle in front. Pilot Assist is active up to 80mph.
Paddle shifting is one level of control. Tweaking the steering and powertrain via the roller control on the tunnel console is a whole other level. Toggle between Pure, Hybrid, AWD and Power modes to adjust your driving experience from behind the wheel.
Included in the drive mode selector, the adjustable power steering allows you to adapt the speed-dependent power steering characteristics to your own personal preferences. While the steering assistance adjusts automatically depending on your car's speed, you can choose in the centre display between three levels of overall steering feel and sensitivity, for low, medium or high steering assistance through the entire speed range.
An interior sensor detects water on the windscreen and automatically turns the windscreen wipers on and off. The sensor also controls the speed or the interval of the wipers according to the amount of water on the windscreen. The sensitivity can be adjusted by the driver.
You can store your Polestar 1 charging cable in a specially designed bag. The bag is easily attached to the right-hand side of the boot.
The Polestar 1 has audible and visible safety belt reminders for both the front and rear seats, helping to reduce the risk of injury to anybody in the car because they are not using the safety belt.
The chassis of the Polestar 1 has been designed to deliver sharply tuned handling responses in combination with comfortable ride characteristics. A well-balanced car is a prerequisite for optimal handling and road holding. The Polestar 1 has the best possible balance, with a weight-distribution of 48% on the front wheels and 52% on the rear. The result is a car that is just as fun to drive on challenging winding roads as it is on a long stretch of motorway.
The Polestar 1 is a two-door, 2+2 seater Grand Tourer Coupé with an ‘Electric Performance Hybrid’ powertrain.
Open the fuel filler lid with a gentle push. There is no cap inside that needs to be unscrewed and removed. The fuel pipe has an integrated seal that opens when the filling nozzle is inserted and closes when it is removed. It only allows the right kind of filling nozzle to be inserted.
The 12 V battery is hidden on the left side under the boot/trunk. A positive terminal is available in the engine compartment, which can be used to connect a jump-start cable or a battery charger. It is clearly marked in red and very easy to see and access.
The combined top speed of Polestar 1 is 250 km/h (155 mph). On electric power only, the top speed is 160 km/h (99 mph).
To keep your Polestar 1 operating at peak performance, you should service it every 30000 Km (18640 miles) or less.
The high-voltage Li-Ion 348V 102Ah, 34kWh battery is arranged in 2 packs, which are placed in the central tunnel of the car and over the rear axle.
The Polestar 1 is equipped with two electric motors, each driving one of the rear wheels. Together, they produce 232 hp and 492 Nm of torque, enabling a pure electric top speed of 99 mph.
Braking is an important part of the performance. The front brakes are the true superstars, subject to greater loads during hard braking. The Polestar 1 boasts 400 x 38 mm ventilated, drilled, aluminium brakes from world-renowned manufacturer Akebono.
The rear brakes of the Polestar 1 are designed for an optimal performance like their frontal counterparts, with dimensions of 390 x 25 mm these brakes are also drilled and ventilated.
