Polestar app
FAQ
For security reasons, the car requires all physical keys (the main key(s) and the activity key) to be inside the vehicle when pairing the Polestar app for the first time. This is only required when pairing a primary ‘admin’ device to the car and not for any subsequent pairings. If you do not have all keys in the vehicle, the car will display a notification, and the pairing process will not be completed.
- Polestar Digital Key is a smart, convenient replacement for the traditional car key. An encrypted digital key is stored securely in the owner’s phone, which communicates with the car using an encrypted Bluetooth connection. In Polestar 2, the digital key enables many personalised settings for the driver. Polestar 2 is still provided with a standard key fob for peace of mind.
Polestar 2 primarily utilises Bluetooth, along with a cloud connection, to enable the digital key via the Polestar app. The cloud has been leveraged to further support digital key functions, enhancing overall stability. Due to this different technical solution and hardware, Polestar 2 will not be able to benefit from the wallet activations.
The different car platforms have different capabilities. Just as onboard features differ, so do remote capabilities, which depend on each platform's components, architecture, and software. It's important to note that not all statuses and features in the car are available from the cloud. Therefore, when there’s a need for a new status, feature, or datapoint, it requires development and delivery from the car to cloud to app.
Pairing as a guest requires at least one physical key present in the car. Make sure that Bluetooth is turned on on your device. If there is an already-paired device in the car (for example the owner’s phone) and pairing is not working, try turning Bluetooth off on the paired device and trying again. If this doesn’t solve the issue, please contact Polestar support.
If there are other paired devices in the car, try turning Bluetooth off on the paired device and trying again. If this doesn’t solve the issue, please contact Polestar support.
If you would like to pair your iPhone with your car for a second time, you will need to manually delete the Bluetooth connection called 'Polestar2' in your iPhone’s Bluetooth settings. Restart your phone and try pairing the Digital Key again.
First, disconnect your old phone from your car and delete the Bluetooth connection in the Bluetooth settings.
You can then proceed with the normal pairing process using the Polestar app on your new phone.
Navigate to the Cars tab, then tap on user management. Tap “Disconnect/Unpair” to remove any paired device form the car profile. iOS users will also need to go to the Bluetooth settings on their phone and remove ‘Polestar2’ from the list of paired devices.
Admin users have additional privileges compared to standard users. During the initial handover, the owner of the car will have an admin profile set up for them. To add another admin profile, make sure both sets of keys are inside the car and then tap the “Make admin” button on the central display.
An admin can view a list of all other devices paired to the car and they are able to disconnect any of these users from the car. They can also control whether data sharing is turned on or off. Non-admin users are only able to disconnect their own device from the car.
The language you use in the Polestar app is determined by your choice of region. It is not currently possible to use a language independent of your region.
Check that the Data Sharing settings is turned to ON for ‘Polestar Connect’. You can also check if you see the phone listed under paired devices. This is done by navigating to your 'Car Profile' -> 'Digital Key' -> 'Paired Devices'.
If your car has got a new Software update via OTA or being in workshop, please ensure that you drive the car around to fully receive the software update. It sometimes can take up to 36 h before you get data in the app again after updating the car software.
To be able to activate data sharing in the Polestar app, you need to be connected to the car's admin profile or another profile with administrator rights. First, go to the 'Cars' tab, then select 'Data sharing' and tap on 'Turn on'. Driving the car is required for data sharing to start. To deactivate data sharing from the app, just toggle the selection off.
