Polestar 4 digital key
FAQ
Digital key is a smart, convenient replacement for the traditional car key. An encrypted digital key is stored securely in the owner’s phone wallet and allows you to lock, unlock, and start your car with phone or smart watch. In Polestar 4, the digital key enables many personalised settings for the driver by using ultra-wideband, Bluetooth low energy and NFC technology. The ultra-wideband provides a very precise localisation of the device, which enables the vehicle's approach recognition. As the car owner, you can share the digital key with others instantly via your mobile device. If your phone runs out of charge, you can still use it as an NFC key card for up to 5 hours. This allows you time to get to your car, unlock and start it, and then charge your phone in the car.
We are currently working with some additional testing and development required for Android devices and expect to make it available in 2025 for Google and Samsung devices.

When creating a digital key from your owner's profile, a new primary key is created. To ensure your driver profile is loaded when unlocking the car, you can link your digital key to your profile by pressing the "Connect key to profile" under "Keys" while having your digital key in the cabin. Make sure to not have any other keys, such as key fob, NFC key card or other digital keys, present in the cabin to make sure the preferred digital key is linked to your driver profile.
We are aware some users are experiencing their primary digital key not showing as created in the centre display after completing the activation process. This issue is expected to be resolved with a future software update.
When activating the primary digital key, make sure both the phone and your car has internet connectivity, and that Bluetooth is turned on. Should you still experience issues when trying to activate your digital key, please contact Polestar support.

Shared keys can be revoked remotely by the primary driver. As the primary driver, you can do this either via the centre display or using your phone’s Wallet. When a digital key connected to Polestar 4 is revoked from your phone’s Wallet, the access is removed.
