OTA updates
FAQ
The latest software update for Polestar 4 is version P4.2.1. It is available in workshops from late November and will be automatically applied to any new vehicles, or vehicles already in the workshop, from this point onward. The OTA roll-out process begins incrementally in batches from late November. It could take up to three weeks for the update to reach you.
See more information about P4.2.1 in the owners manual.
The OTA update process will consist of the following steps: the software package will download automatically in the background whenever you are driving the car if ‘Automatic download’ is selected in the settings. The package is quite large and may take some time – a couple of hours should be expected. There is no cost involved. If you stop driving before the download is complete, it will automatically resume the next time you drive. Once the download is complete, your car will notify you that the installation is ready the next time you start the car and provides full instructions on what to do. A minimum charge level of 20% is required to run the installation. You will have the option to start the installation immediately, or later, which will dismiss the notification. You will find it again by swiping down from the top of the screen to access notifications. The expected installation time will be stated in the installation prompt, which varies depending on software package size and you will not be able to use the car during the update. You should not charge the car during this specific installation. A successful installation will result in a success message shown on your centre display. If for any reason the installation was not successful, the car will report the reason. If necessary, please contact Polestar Support for advice. If you are not able to retry installation right away, simply dismiss the notification and you will be able to drive as normal. You will be able to retry the installation at another time by accessing the notification tray by swiping down from the top of the screen.
If you have still not received the latest OTA software, we recommend that you try to restart the system prior to driving the car. Read more about how to restart the infotainment system in the owners manual chapter, "Restarting the displays". The Polestar word mark is shown when the infotainment system is starting up again. Once the restart has been completed, continue driving to allow the software download to complete. It may take several hours depending on the size of the update and the speed of the connection. If the software is still not available for you after you have completed the above steps, please contact Polestar Support for further assistance.
The cloud symbol with an arrow down indicated your car has been able to download the majority of the software package but encountered issues when trying to complete the download. In this case, we recommend that you try to restart the infotainment system prior to driving the car. Read more about how to restart the infotainment system in the owners manual chapter: "Restarting the displays". Once the restart has been completed, continue driving for up to 90 consecutive minutes to allow the software download to complete. A successful download complete will be indicated by a cloud symbol with an explanation mark.
