Who is eligible to purchase the performance software upgrade? Are there any limitations?

The performance software upgrade is only available for dual-motor cars that do not have performance software from the factory. The aftermarket offer is available to cash and financed purchases as well as fleet and lease customers in appointed markets.

How does this upgrade affect my insurance?

Accepted Answer

The change to the specification of your car may affect your insurance premiums. You are responsible for informing your insurance provider of the upgrade, and the associated potential change in cost. Failure to do so may result in your insurance company refusing a claim.

How is the upgrade installed?

The upgrade is sent to your car as an Over-the-Air (OTA) update and can be installed at your convenience once downloaded.

How can I see in my car that the Performance Software Upgrade is installed?

If you have installed the Performance software upgrade, you can see the updated car specification in the Polestar App.

Why can the software purchase not be returned?

Accepted Answer

Since the Polestar Performance Software upgrade constitutes digital content that will be delivered automatically following the purchase, the customer is allowed a 3-day cancellation window from payment.

Will the Performance Software upgrade impact my  original warranty?

Accepted Answer

No, as this is a Polestar product, installing this upgrade has no effect on your original warranty. It also won’t affect your car’s service interval frequency.

What do I get when I buy the software?

You will receive the software, two replacement door stickers, a Polestar Engineered 'rank mark' to apply to your front grille, and if applicable an emissions sticker. In USA and Canada, 2021 Model Year vehicles will require an underhood emission sticker and instructions will be provided with the sticker.

I have purchased the upgrade in the web shop – how long will it take before I get prompted to install it in the car?

The software will reach you within 1-2 weeks after purchasing.

How much does the performance software upgrade cost?

The Polestar 2 performance software upgrade can be purchased from your local Polestar retailer for $1,195 in the US (plus applicable taxes for either country). Polestar 3 performance software upgrade will be available for purchase at the end of 2024.

Is the performance software upgrade included in the Performance Pack?

Accepted Answer

The Performance software upgrade is included in the Performance pack for 2023 model year vehicles. The upgrade is not included in model years prior to 2023.

Does the upgrade stay with the car when we come to sell it?

Yes, the upgrade will be added to the vehicle and not the Polestar ID.

How do I change and apply the stickers?

Accepted Answer

The sticker kit, which will be sent to your delivery address, includes instructions for removing your car's existing door stickers and mounting the new ones. Just scan the QR code to watch a video that runs through the process step by step, or read more in the manual.

Can I buy and install the performance software upgrade as a lease customer?

Accepted Answer

Because the performance software upgrade is not part of the original lease offer, you will need approval from the leasing company before purchasing the software.

I have already downloaded and installed the performance software upgrade. How can I add the launch control feature?

Accepted Answer

Launch control is part of the latest over-the-air update for your Polestar 2 Long range Dual motor. By downloading and installing this update, the launch control feature will automatically be added at no extra charge.

Is there a way to see how the performance software upgrade improves the acceleration time?

Accepted Answer

Yes there is. We've developed a dedicated in-car Performance app that can be accessed from the center display. It provides acceleration figures as well as the number of Gs that the car pulls. The Performance app can be downloaded for free from the Google Play store.
