Where can I buy my own wallbox for charging at home?

Accepted Answer

If you want to benefit from faster and more convenient charging at home, you can contact a specialist wallbox supplier. On a local level, Polestar partners with several carefully selected companies to offer a hassle-free charging solution, including installation. If you're leasing your car, ask your leasing company if they have a preferred supplier. Also note that the purchase and the fitting of a wallbox may be eligible for government grants.

Where can I charge my Polestar while out and about?

Accepted Answer

No matter where you are, your Polestar 2 can find the closest charging location when you say "Hey Google, where is the closest charging station?" There are multiple charging networks across the United States where you can charge your Polestar. Chargers vary by location (some are DC Fast Chargers and others are AC Level 2 chargers). The networks are privately owned, and charging sessions can be purchased on demand or via a subscription; most networks are accessible through a smartphone app or via credit card.

What do I need to charge my Polestar at home?

We recommend installing a Level 2 J1772 type home charger, which you can purchase on Polestar.com prior to receiving your car. Charging time for your Polestar will vary depending on the type and power of the charger you are using.

My car is charging to 100% even though I set the limit to 80% or another level. Why does that happen?

We are aware that this is happening with a few of our cars. This will not affect your warranty. We are working on a future software update which will solve the problem.

What is the point of charging timers and how do they work?

Accepted Answer

Charging timers allow you to leave your Polestar 2 plugged in but control exactly when it will charge. This is particularly useful in environments where electricity may be cheaper late at night. The charging timers can be scheduled in the car- When plugged in and not charging, the info pill will display a blue halo, indicating that a charging timer is active and that charging will take place. It is possible to monitor and set charging timers in the Polestar app (version 3.6 required).

Note: the charging timer is not location-based and will restrict AC charging according to the schedule at any location. You should keep this in mind if charging outside of regular routines where the schedule may prevent charging.

Does the Range Assistant app replace the Driver Performance app, and how does it work?

Yes. The new Range Assistant app provides a far greater amount of useful information that can help increase range confidence and improve your efficiency as an EV driver. 
The Range Assistant app presents two main figures to the driver: instant consumption and range. These figures are based on the driver's current input and not a trip average. They are designed to help the driver adjust their driving style if necessary. There may be a difference between the predicted range figure in the Range Assistant app and the range shown in the driver display. This is because the range in the app is based on instant consumption, while the range in the driver display is based on a linear average algorithm related to the SOC (state of charge).

What is good practice when using public charging stations?

Refer to your owner’s manual for important safety information regarding vehicle charging.

When using public charging stations, a good practice is to:

a. Always check the charging station’s charging receptacle for signs of excessive wear or debris within the charge handle ports as this could indicate a potential shock hazard. Note that a public charging station is in constant use and exposed to the elements, and wear over time can be an issue. If after you have visually checked the charge port receptacle and it appears that the ports are damaged or debris filled, do not use the charging station, and move to another charge station to charge your vehicle’s battery. Additionally, do NOT touch the charge ports or use any tool to attempt to remove debris from the charge handle ports as potential electrical shock can occur.

b. Never use an EV charger with obvious signs of damage.

c. Finally, ensure that the charging station receptacle fastens snugly into your car’s charging port, a worn receptacle may prevent a secure and safe connection to your vehicle.
