Polestar Performance Architecture

Genuine performance requires a lightweight structure with huge torsional strength to minimise flex under load. Formed from anodised aluminium, the bonded and cured unibody of the Polestar 5 sits together with the battery platform in a bespoke architecture.

Polestar 5

An in-house developed PX2 permanent magnet synchronous motor completes the dual motor package, creating the most powerful Polestar to date.

The next step in powertrain development, 800 V battery technology brings more efficiency and more performance.

Developed by a team of designers, engineers, and test drivers with experience of world motorsport and
high-end sports car development.

Performance features

The curated interior

Whether sitting in the front or rear, all occupants experience a sporty and dynamic interior space. A contrasting upholstered band navigates around the interior increasing the sense of intimacy and modernity.

Cradle-to-gate carbon footprint²

Polestar 5 Dual motor -  23.8 tCO₂e Cradle-to-gate refers to the environmental impact assessment of a car’s life cycle from the first raw material extraction to it reaching the customer.

Aluminium carbon footprint

83% of the aluminium secured for Polestar 5 comes from smelters utilising renewable electricity, while 13% of it is recycled. This mitigates over 14 tCO₂e compared to using the standard aluminium available in China.

Interior materials

We partnered with Bcomp™ to develop a partly bio-based ampliTex® weave made from flax and polypropylene. Featured on the front seat hardbacks with PowerRibs® and natural fibre polypropylene, the results are lighter in weight and carbon footprint.

Renewable electricity

Renewable electricity powers the vehicle manufacturing plants for Polestar 5, including the production of battery cell modules, copper foil, and anode and cathode active materials.

  1. Performance figures based on Polestar 5 Performance. Range figure based on Polestar 5 Dual motor. In Europe, all electric vehicles must undergo the Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP). It measures the range, travelling at an average speed of 46.5 km/h in summer temperatures from a 100% to 0% state of charge. The actual range achieved under real conditions varies depending on driving behaviour and other external factors.

  2. Cradle-to-gate carbon footprint refers to the greenhouse gas emissions from raw material extraction up to the point it reaches the customer.
