What will it take to drive our sustainable, electrified future forward?

In its simplest form, Polestar is a company that makes electric cars. But what we’re really in the business of creating is positive change. We know that electric cars are not sustainable today, but they offer a true pathway to climate neutrality tomorrow. We challenge the status quo, challenge ourselves, and challenge others to help accelerate the decarbonisation of the automotive industry. While we're proud of what we’ve been able to achieve to date, the road ahead is long, and we know we can’t do it alone. Rather, it will take collective action, with innovative thinkers and action takers across all industries working together to create the solutions that will lead to a more sustainable, electrified future. So, in the spirit of cross-industry collaboration, Polestar has partnered with Guardian Labs to co-produce the Future Labs: Moonshot 2030 campaign. This four-part podcast series unearths the inspiring stories of individuals effecting positive change on a global scale. Uncovering the why and how of their ‘moon shot’ goal, the series amplifies the voices of the dreamers and visionaries turning ideas into reality to help bring us closer to our 2030 climate targets.

Sustainability is no longer just a moral question; in 2024 and beyond, it will be a business imperative.
Rosanna Iacono, Analyst at The Future Laboratory and CEO at The Growth Activists

The Future Labs: Moonshot 2030 podcast series was officially launched with a live discussion event in Sydney. Anchored by a keynote presentation from global forecasting consultancy The Future Laboratory, the evening challenged guests to redefine their understanding of what is driving our sustainable future. Moderated by radio presenter Veronica Milsom, the panel featured actor and climate advocate Yael Stone, circular fashion innovator Kit Willow, and Polestar Australia's managing director Scott Maynard. Each panelist shared their own insights on how we can make a sustainable future a reality; why our renewables transition needs to be transparent, accessible and scalable; and how we can make this sustainable future an equitable one

Scott Maynard said: “Polestar has always been clear that electrification is just the beginning.  We should all embrace transparency and be honest about the true impact of our products, while offering a roadmap with clear, tangible steps on our journey to decarbonisation.”

The podcast series delves into critical themes in each episode to explore issues such as energy use, sustainable living, future mobility, and resource utilisation. Notable guests on the podcast include Saul Griffith, engineer and founder of Rewiring Australia; Sam Elsom, CEO of Sea Forest; Chris Vernone from the CSIRO; and Fredrika Klarén, head of sustainability at Polestar, among others.

Speaking on the podcast’s third episode – “How we move” – Fredrika Klarén reiterates the importance of information sharing amongst industries and valuing the potential for greater impact through collaboration. “We need to create new mindsets among leaders that are steering these industries going forward in this new era of the climate crisis,” she said.

The Future Labs: Moonshoot 2030 podcast message is clear: driving our electrified and sustainable future forward will take more than technological innovation—it will take a mindset shift across all industries. Australia, like many countries around the world, has ambitious targets to reduce its carbon emissions, and is not immune to the devastating effects of a warming climate. It is therefore imperative that we continue to look at the bigger picture, and come together with a shared commitment to decarbonise, so we can achieve lasting and impactful change.
